Hotels in South Sulawesi are improving and new properties are being built for the business traveller. The four-star Hotel Marannu City and the Makassar Golden Hotel are the best. The Victoria and Grand are classified three star hotels. These hotels have air conditioned rooms with attached bathrooms, telephones, TV, and restaurants. In Toraja, hotels are in cottage style with attached bathrooms, no air conditioning is needed because of its cool climate. In Ujung Pandang, one star hotels are partly air conditioned, have their own restaurants. These rooms have attached bathrooms.

11 Days / 10 Nights

Note : this tour package is combination between South & Central Sulawesi with different atmosphere and customs, where you can explore the culture and nature of Tana Toraja, the mysterious of crystal Lake Poso, one of the clearest lake in Indonesia and cruising to heavenly place to TOGIAN ISLANDS where you can find a spectacular marine park and wonderful white sandy beaches.

Day 01. ARRIVAL IN MAKASSAR / DRIVE TO TANA TORAJA (L,D)
According to your schedule of arrival by GA 620 Eta. 10h10 ex. Denpasar, you will meet our Tour Guide at Hasanuddin Airport Makassar. Then take approx. 8 hours scenic drive to Tana Toraja with many photo-stops en route, passing through the Buginese villages with their typical wooden houses. Lunch will be served at a seafood restaurant in Pare-Pare. In the afternoon stop on the Puncak Lakawan for having coffee break while enjoy the wonderful view of Mount Buttukabobong. In the afternoon arrive in Rantepao. Dinner and stay overnight at Hotel.

Day 02. FULL DAY TANA TORAJA TOUR (B,L,D)
After breakfast, we will visit the stone hanging grave of Lemo with its Tau-Tau effigies. Then to Kambira where we can find the peculiar baby graves in the trees. Onwards we will explore the architecture of Tongkonan houses in Ketekesu village and Londa, which is a natural grave with entombed deceased. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Rantepao. In the afternoon, we visit Nanggala and Siguntuk, local Torajan villages famous for their old Tongkonan houses and rice barns. Then back to the Hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 03. FULL DAY TANA TORAJA TOUR (B,L,D)
In the morning we will visit Tinombayo where we can enjoy the spectacular view of the megalith stones spread over the extensive rice fields. Then to a burial cave of Lokomata. From Lokomata, we continue our trip to Batutumonga where we will a have short trekking, enjoy the beautiful panorama and experience a moment of the unique Torajan life style.. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Batutumonga. In the afternoon, we will visit Pallawa & Sa’dan, local Torajan villages famous for their wood carving. Then back to the Hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 04. TORAJA – PENDOLO (B,L,D)
After breakfast, drive to Pendolo via Palopo. The road between Tana Toraja to Palopo offers us many spectacular views. Lunch en route. In the afternoon, arrive in Pendolo a small town, located on the south shore of Lake Poso. Dinner and stay overnight at Hotel Mulia Lake Poso – simple accommodation.

Day 05. PENDOLO – BANCEA - TENTENA (B,L,D)
By motorized boat, we cruising along to Bancea to visit the natural black orchid forest. And then proceed to Tentena for Lunch. After lunch drive to Siurri for your accommodation at Siuri Cottage at the side of the Poso Lake. Dinner will be served here.

Day 06. TENTENA – AMPANA (B,L,D)
After breakfast, drive to Ampana. Passing through the local villages with the typical daily life style. Lunch en route. In the afternoon, arrive in Ampana. Dinner and overnight stay in Marinna Inn Cottage Ampana.

Day 07. AMPANA – ISLAND RETREAT RESORT BOMBA, TOGIAN ISLAND (B,L,D)
By motorized charter boat we cruise to the heavenly islands of Togian. Lunch will be served on boat. In the afternoon, arrive in Bomba. In the evening, we will have a barbeque dinner at the shore of the beach. Overnight at Island Retreat Bomba.

Day 08. FREE PROGRAM (B,L,D)
After breakfast, your free day at leisure in Bomba where you can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, diving or cruising to the several of wonderful islands surround. Dinner and overnight at Island Retreat Bomba.

Day 09. FREE PROGRAM / TOGIAN ISLAND – AMPANA (B,L,D)
In the morning your free day at leisure. In the midday transfer back to Ampana. Lunch on boat. In the afternoon, arrive in Ampana. Dinner and overnight at Marinna Inn Cottage.

Day 10. AMPANA – PALU (B,L,D)
After breakfast, drive to Palu passing through the beach coast line and the fishermen villages. Lunch en route. In the afternoon, arrive in Palu the capital town of Central Sulawesi province. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Rama Garden Palu.

Day 11. TRANSFER OUT (B)
After breakfast, free program until the time for transfer to Mutiara Airport Palu

HISTORY

Before the Republic of Indonesia has it proclamation, South Sulawesi is include of a number of independent kingdoms and dwelt by four etnic, that is: Bugis, Makassar, Mandar and Torajans. There three big empires that have big influence, those are Luwu, Gowa, and Bone, which at XVI century and XVII century reach their glorious, and has trade relation with Europeans, India, China, Malay, and Arab.

After the independence, there is the constitution number 21 in 1950, which stated that South Sulawesi become an autonomous Sulawesi Province. In 1960 become an autonomous South Sulawesi and Southeast based on the constitution number 13 in 1960. The separation of South Sulawesi from the autonomous area of South Sulawesi and Southeast was declared by the constitution number 13 in 1964, so that it become the South Sulawesi Autonomous area of South Sulawesi.

Ujung Pandang is the main city on Sulawesi, originally known as Makassar. The court of the kings of Gowa was nearby. The people here are called Makassarese. The Bugis people are famous as sailors, and founded trade empires of their own. The most famous Bugis leaders were kings of Bone, which is called Watampone today. Bugis settlements have scattered as far as Kalimantan and Riau. The kings of Gowa and Bone did much to spread Islam through the area. The island of Butung or Buton did not submit to the Dutch until 1908. The Toraja people are the original inhabitants of the central part of Sulawesi. They are known for their unusual customs; today most are Christians. The Toraja also resisted the Dutch until the first decade of the 20th Century.

THE SYMBOL MEANING
The arms were adopted in 1972. The arms consist of seven parts with each senses described as below:

  1. Five pointed star and its reflection: as a light to create the symbol for The One Supreme God.
  2. The circle of "unhealed rice and cottons". It consists of 17 unhooked rice-ears, 8 cottons with 4 toots on calyxes and 5 toots on cotton, which describes the 17th of August 1945 as proclamation day of Indonesia's independence.
  3. The vision of fort of Somba Opu from the air. The fort symbolizes the heroism of the South Sulawesi people. There are three halls of the fort and each load of:
    • A Phinisi boat symbolizing the spirit of seaman tenacity, full-militancy and capable to popularize the aim of the 17th of August 1945 struggle. The boat is directing western appropriated the capital of Indonesia.
    • The hoe symbolizes the agrarian community as basis and machine tooth symbolizes industries as principal supports.
    • The coconut symbolizes the natural wealth of South Sulawesi.
  4. An unsheathed small dagger between rice and cotton with pattern inherent five curves, which symbolizes spirit of heroism and alert in protecting the nation. The five curves are sacred numerals of each principle in philosophy of Pancasila
  5. Mountain, village, and pieces of rice-field for fertility, strive for justice and welfare community. The 23 pieces of rice-field is appropriate total of regencies in South Sulawesi as one of the rice-barns in Indonesia
  6. The motto in Lontara local characters means "Toddo'puli", which means firm in conviction.
  7. A ribbon inscribes Sulawesi Selatan "South Sulawesi as a province of Indonesia. The ribbon is in silk designed, which describes special characteristic and precious of culture since long time ago
